Snow Day: a short report because I had to play

I eat A LOT of food, and that means mom and dad have to work for a living.  They are up and out of the house somewhere between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m Monday through Friday, but don’t worry, Molly and i have found a way to deal with our empty nest situation….we sleep.

First we cuddle up on the bed with dad after mom leaves, then we spread out together on the bed after dad leaves, then Molly stays on the bed by herself after i leave.  It’s not that we are sleep deprived, we’re just dog tired.

As much as we love our sleeping dogs routine, it gets even better every now and then when the phone rings at 4:45 in the morning and the automated voice announces:  SNOW DAY!!!!!

ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH-DOGGY IT’S A SNOW DAY!!!

There are three varieties of snow day (and one that we don’t like to mention).  There’s your standard full-day snow day, the just-a-bit-off-the-morning snow day, and the mom-and-dad-make-a-surprise-return-at-midday snow day.  I like them all.

The standard full-day snow day and the just-a-bit-off-the-morning snow day are nice because mom, dad, Molly, Sheeva, and i climb back under (or on top of) the blankets and allow the sugar plum fairies to dance through our heads for a few bonus hours before taking to the trail.

The mom-and-dad-make-a-surprise-return-at-midday snow day is a treat too because then we get to venture out for our walk earlier than usual.

Really, no matter how you break the biscuit, snow days rock because when all is said and done, we get to go outside and play in the snow!

When was the last time you played in the snow?

Please don’t say back when you were a pup long ago.

You are never too old to play in the snow.

Don’t let the white stuff make you feel low.

Ignore the news and their tales of woe.

The fun that is waiting you cannot outgrow.

Forget the excuse I’ll go out tomorrow.

If you don’t want to sweat, grab your favorite Thoreau.

Go with a friend or go solo.

Even if you are cursed with the unspeakable, previously alluded to, still-have-to-get-up-and-go day, find five minutes to stop, look around, take in the beauty, block out the negativity, step into the past, and play in the snow.

i’m a dog, i love life, and i have flaws.  i’m perfect. imperfect. Just. Like. You.

Tell me what's on your mind!
