Adirondack Mountains

If i haven’t mentioned before, i love the cold.  Even greater than my love for the cold is my love for mountains.  Mountains call to me no mater the season.  In the dog days of summer, i can escape to higher elevations and cooler breezes with just a little walk in the woods.  Mountains are majestic. They are solid and steadfast and promise adventure at every turn…kind of like the enormous form of a giant puppy.

There are small mountains right out my back door, and we go there often, but when i’m really a lucky dog, we jump in the car and head five hours north.  Upstate New York is home to the Adirondack Mountains, my dream retirement locale.

The Adirondacks, also known as ADK, cover over six million acres.  I have no idea how to measure an acre because i’m a dog and i don’t own property, but i can imagine how six million of anything is kind of a big deal.  This isn’t a travel blog, it’s a dog-blog, so if you want to learn official information about this prime destination, click here and read a bit for yourself.

Let me tell you why this dog blogs about life inside the Blue Line (yet another name for ADK)…trees, water, snow, sunshine, trails, trees, mountains, beer, people, dogs, water, trails, and did i mention….trees!

Although there is a lot of talk that the high peaks region of the Adirondacks is getting over crowded (leave no trace, please), i still feel like i can find a little solitude if i look for the right trails and out-of-the-way destinations.   I’m sure you can imagine how many trails there are in six million acres, so i won’t bore you with the details here.  Check out my pics for some of our favorite ADK shots.

The best part of the ADK, besides the trees, the people, the water, the sunshine, the mountains, and the trees, is that Molly and i are allowed to go almost anywhere we want, and i don’t mean just outside.  There are camp grounds and restaurants and brew pubs and wineries throughout the park that welcome furbabies and humans alike.  It is really hard to find a classy place to take my humans!

So, if you’re looking for a worthwhile weekend, hop in the family wagon and hit the highway.  Fish, kayak, bike, hike, or swim until your heart is content.  Life is too short to stay inside. (and hey, if you want to take a few friends along, check out this amazing place to stay)

Have fun out there!
