PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – On Wednesday, October 9th, Lopatcong Elementary students had a visitor. As they celebrated New Jersey’s Week of Respect, the students were treated to a visit from local author Sue Steinhardt and her 135-pound St. Bernard/Mastiff mix, Phil, the inspiration behind the “Imperfect Phil” book series.
Who doesn’t love a story about a Dog? We sure do. We might have a couple of our own!
Sue Steinhardt, a veteran English teacher, uses her five-book series to promote mental health and social-emotional learning. Her books, told from Phil’s perspective, teach children important lessons about self-confidence, embracing imperfections, and learning through failure. Each book encourages readers to accept themselves and others while staying true to who they are.
During the visit, Steinhardt read from her books and discussed core social and emotional concepts with the students. Phil, a fan favorite, received plenty of affection from the students, who enjoyed his gentle and playful demeanor.
Principal Wayne gave a special thanks to the Lopatcong PTA for sponsoring this memorable event, which brought lessons of self-acceptance and kindness to the forefront, all with the help of a lovable giant named Phil.
Each book purchase contributes to local animal rescues, with $1 per sale going to support these organizations.
If you want to contact Phil directly, use his email: imperfectphil@gmail.com or come out and see him at a show.
