I’m a humble kind of dog, but if pressed to identify one quality that makes me amazing, it would have to be the gentle silkiness of my giant puppy fur. Everywhere we go, people stop to pet my head or stroke my back. If i’m lucky, for an extra special treat, i might even get a belly rub! Perhaps it’s my enormous black nose that lures them in, or maybe my irresistible brown eyes, i don’t know for sure, but from the largest man to the tiniest woman, i bring them to their knees. Once a friendly stranger sinks their fingers deep into my do, they are transformed into a virtual Lennie Small.
Fortunately, life does not always imitate art, and i am not as delicate as a rabbit nor as tiny as a pup, so i enjoy the attention and emerge unscathed. (moment of silence for Curley’s wife please).
Don’t get me wrong, i enjoy a hardy pat on the back. Who doesn’t? In fact, i admit i play it up and work my Phil-esque magic….hello ladies! Beware though, if i see you on the street you will need to prepare for the full weight of my greeting. I embrace the allure of my locks, and so will you.
My magnificent mane makes me a perfect match for the cold weather, and a perfect bed mate as well! The colder the better as far as i’m concerned. November through March, Molly and Sheeva spend their time curled up in front of the fire, but i prefer to stake my claim on the deck in a chilly mound of snow. Molly has a fleece coat for our winter walks, i have me!
Cold weather rules, hot weather is for fools. I spend months cultivating my minky coat, but when the mercury goes up, the fur falls out.
July and August, while Molly sets up camp in the sunshine, I plant my muzzle in front of the fan.
Let’s review….a giant shedding puppy…honkered down… inches from the fan.
Enter fur balls and tumbleweed.
I will assume that if you are reading my blog (subscribe and share please!), you may have a furbaby of your own out there! If you are a wild and crazy human being, you may even be like our family and have a few. The more the merrier mom says!
Furry creatures are wonderful creatures, and we all deserve a home. When you make the choice to become a pet mom or dad, you are opening yourself up to unconditional love, devotion, and more often than not, mess.
Ever bolt awake at midnight to the sound of a pukey pet only to step barefoot into the hallway…into a warm pile of vile? Ever return from a long day of work only to discover your nose wants to run for cover? Accidents…and shedding…happen. We don’t mean to do it, but we are people too!
Perhaps you vacuum twice a day. Perhaps your furniture has a coat of its own. Perhaps you see mud prints? Drool drops? Dogs and cats around corner?
Maybe you even have furballs.
Despite your best efforts and cleaning endeavors, maybe you sometimes spot tumbleweed. The struggle is real…don’t sweat it. i’m a dog, i love life, and i have flaws. i’m perfect. imperfect. Just. Like. You.
